Attention all Kohl’s credit card customers!!! When you use your Kohl’s Cash in conjunction with any other discout coupon; such as a “Reveal coupon-you peel of to see what percentage off you can use-typically 15, 20 or 30%–THE CASHIERS HAVE BEEN INSTRUCTED TO SUBTOTAL YOUR ITEMS, THEN SUBTRACT YOUR KOHL’S CASH, THEN THE PERCENTAGE OFF COUPON!!!!!!!!!!!!!THIS IS SUCH A SCAM!!!! Most folks do not take the time to calculate what & how Kohl’s has cheated them. For example: For a $50.00 purchase, with $10 Kohl’s Cash & a 30% off coupon–using their deceitful method noted above–YOU WOULD PAY $28.00 PLUS TAX ON $40-(I’LL USE 5% tax for example).
Your total would be $28.00 + $2.00 TX= $30.00 (YOUR PERCENTAGE OFF COUPON). IF THEY RANG THE SEQUENCE LIKE THEY SOULD–YOU WOULD PAY $50-LESS YOUR PERCENTAGE OFF $35, THEN DEDUCT YOUR KOHL’S CASH OF $10–GIVING YOU A GRAND BALANCE OF $25.00 PLUS TAX $1.25-grand total of $26.25 (THE TAX WOULD ONLY BE RATED AT THE LOWER VALUE, TOO)
SO—KOHL’S CREDIT CARD CUSTOMERS–WHAT WOULD YOU RATHER PAY FOR THE SAME $50 OF MERCHANDISE–$30 or $26.25???????
Sure-the $3.75 doesn’t break the bank-but add that up with every transaction and with larger purchases-and NOTE: the more Kohl’s cash you redeem- the more you lose!!!!!!!!!
Example: If your purchases were $50, with $30 Kohls cash, & a 35% disc. coupon- their way you would pay $14 + tax (on $20) Versus $5.00 plus tax (on $5) This is really when you are scammed!!!!!!

As a Kohls employee, I can assure you we are NOT instructed to remove the Kohls cash first. The Kohls computer system is set up to automatically take off the Kohls cash, then the percentage off. No matter what order we enter them, it will rearrange itself to remove the Kohls cash. There is no way to override it. Is it fair? Probably not. Is there anything we can do about it? no. We are just normal people trying to get through the day like everyone else, not people sitting around trying to think of the next way to scam you.
it is not the employees fault but Khols policies. It is wrong and it is a scam. I hope management listen to the complaints and start acting fair. I was in Kohls today and it same thing happened to me. I let it slide but I heard someone else that was very upset and said it is wrong. The coupon says 20% off entire purchase and Kohls cash says use as cash. So it should be as they state
Kohls cash isn’t really ‘cash’ It’s a coupon. It clearly states its not a legal form of tender,
I think it is fair. I also work at Kohl’s and deal with this problem all day long. The customer is still recieving the dollar amount off the sale price, just because it’s not done the way that would give you the most benefit doesn’t mean you shouldn’t appreciate the discount. It also comes off before tax so you’re paying less tax…you’re welcome. lol
Actually if the % came off after tax they would save more
I am a supervisor and just want to second what the pp said. It is done by the computer no matter what order its in. Please dont blame the cashiers.
We receive Kohl’s cash for spending money. If I spend $100 (all on sale too) then I get $20 in Kohl’s cash. I think that if I got a discount (30% last event) then that would be an extra $6 Kohl’s was giving me for no reason. It makes sense to me that they take the coupon they gave me off first and then apply my discount to what is left. I see these poor cashiers being treated poorly by customers and know they did not set the policy, nor do they program the registers. They just try to learn their jobs and be nice to customers. I have worked retail and know how hard their job is.
I understand their policy of taking off the Kohl’s Cash before the discount (although it does promote ill will and I think it is a bad business practice). They should not call it “cash” because it is not cash it is a discount with all kinds of strings attached! When you return items that have been purchased and Kohl’s cash issued they ask you if you want to put it on a store credit rather than credit your payment method so you don’t lose your Kohl’s cash. However, they also deduct that Kohl’s cash amount from your grand total if you are shopping online. Tonight I had $50 in Kohl’s cash getting ready to expire. I spent over 1 hour nline shopping. I purchased $101.50 worth of items. I used a 20% + free shipping for purchases over $75 code. This took off $20.30 leaving a total of $81.20. I then punched in my $50 Kohl’s cash code and my balance went to 56.15 not $31.20. I thought something is wrong. It appears that they added $14.95 for shipping because apparently payments with Kohl’s Cash do not count towards your total. So if I wanted to use my $50 Kohl’s cash it was going to $24.95 almost HALF the “value of the cash” I cancelled the order and will be cancelling my charge card. My best advice is avoid Kohls cash and possibly even Kohls stores altogether
People relax, if Kohl’s issues Kohl’s Cash and percent off coupons, then they should be able to decide how it shall be reedemed. Remember, businesses are usually trying to make money.
I work @ Kohl’s. On the back of the Kohl’s cash, in BOLD letters it is stated that the dollar amount discounts are applied FIRST, then any percent off discount is applied. It does NOT matter what order I scan the coupons in, the computer is smarter than us, it will take the dollar amount off first, then apply the discount to the remaining. So handing us your percent off coupon, while hiding you Kohl’s cash behind your back, is not slick at all. Also, I have NEVER understood why customers think they are entitled to purchase $200 dollars worth of merchandise, earn $40 worth of Kohl’s cash, then return the $200 worth of merchandise and still keep the Kohl’s cash. The Kohl’s cash is a reward for making a purchase, if you return the purchase, you haven’t earned the Kohl’s cash. Why should we just give you $40 ?????
I visited Kohl’s today, my subtotal was $98.00, when the cashier took the kohl’s cash off my total was $145.00. The discounts were removed and I was actually paying more for their marketing gimmick. I returned everything I purchased. I will probably not be doing much business with them any longer. I am tired of stores and their scams, since we are military, I will stick to purchasing my clothing tax free at aafes.
Its stated on the back of kohls cash that $ coupon will be used prior to % discount.
kohls is scam i bought pant and shirt worth $100.00 some dollers lady said i got 20 kohls cash and puts eveything in the bag went home just took out pant, shirt and receipts from bag and forgot about the kohls cash and lost it, after few days i went to return my pants cuz it didnt fit me well. went to kohls counter and handed her pants and receipts and she asked for kohls cash i was like i have lost it and she was like then i have to deduct that $20.00 from here i was like i have lost it and have not spent it why don’t u disable the kohls cash cancel it she was like we dont have system setup like that. i was like is it my fault that i have to loss $20.00 because of it? then i told her i am not returning eveything i am keeping my shirt, so it should be 10 dollers after long argument i just endup returning eveything and told her this is such a scam and lost $20.00 time and gas going back and forth for nothing.
I agree that sucks
Give me a break. The real problem is customers like you , who expect everything to be handed to them. You’re getting a huge discount either way…but you just want everything for free. News flash. They’re a business, and they need to make money. Otherwise you wouldn’t even have a kohls to shop at.
