I received an sms 04/04/2011 at 03:18am stating that my cell number won the Nokia yearly promotion and that the cash prize is R250,000.00 with pin 505. The number it originated from is +27(71)9925143, and that I should phone Dr Richard Gift at +27(78)3410504. When I phone the guy, he said that I should buy a R180 mtn recharge voucher and sms that number and my details back to him. Luckily I am a bit broke and used a previous voucher number to test. He phoned me back the next day saying that I will receive a sms from the bank with details as to where I can pick up my “winnings”.
I received an sms moments later stating that in order to release the money, I need to pay R1,970.00 over to them. I new it was a scam and ignored it. Dr Richard phoned me back and insisted it wasn’t a scam. You better get this guy, NOKIA! I gave you 2 working numbers and because of this new cell phone law – RICA – in SA, it should be easy to trace him!
