The Meadville Corporation was a Pennsylvania-based oil firm that operated out of Haverford, PA. In Elizabeth, New Jersey, it was formed in 1930. When marketed merit brand gas at retail gas stations, it had a crimson "M" with the right vertical support taken out of it. In the Northeastern United States, you can find merit gas stations. Amerada Hess owned a significant investment in the corporation for many years. As part of its acquisition of the Meadville Corporation in 2000, Hess renamed the 178 Merit gas stations it had previously acquired under the new Hess name. Due to Marathon Petroleum's 2014 acquisition of Hess's retail holdings, these stations are now part of the Speedway brand.
