"Red Robin Gourmet Burgers and Brews" began in Seattle, Washington, in 1969 as an American chain of casual dining restaurants. YAKIMA, Washington, was the first to open a franchised Red Robin restaurant. Headquartered in Greenwood Village, Colorado, Red Robin is a chain of fast-food restaurants. According to August 2020, there were over 570 restaurants in operation, with 90 of them franchised. Located at the southern end of the University Bridge at Furhman and Eastlake Avenues E in Seattle, the original Red Robin was there. The building originally belonged to Sam's Tavern and was built in 1940. Gerry Kingen expanded the restaurant and purchased it in 1969. He changed the name to Red Robin. He opened a 1,200 square foot (110 square meters) restaurant in 1969. It became a favorite hangout for University of Washington students.
