Church's Chicken is an American fast-food restaurant chain based in Atlanta, Georgia that specializes in fried chicken. George W. Church Sr. founded the chain on April 17, 1952, across from The Alamo in San Antonio, Texas. Outside the United States, Church's Chicken is known as Texas Chicken or Church's Texas Chicken. The chain is currently owned by Friedman Fleischer & Lowe, a private equity firm.
The company has 1,700 franchise and company-owned restaurants in 26 countries as of 2017. San Antonio, Texas, resident George W. Church Sr. opened the first Church's Chicken in 1952, under the name Church's Fried Chicken To-Go.
