In 1985, Joe Croce founded the first CiCi's Pizza location in Plano, Texas. The all-you-can-eat buffet at CiCi's restaurants includes pizza, spaghetti, salads, and desserts. The restaurant chain, which began franchising in 1987, now has locations in 34 states. The chain extended its buffet offerings and began refurbishing restaurants in 2001, when it had 363 locations. CiCi's Pizza placed third in the pizza category of Restaurants & Institutions' "Consumers' Choice in Chains" sweepstakes from 2004 to 2009, which is based on customer reviews of rival restaurant chains. In 24 states, there are 297 franchised and corporately owned restaurants.
