Craig Culver thought it was time to create his own restaurant after working with his parents in theirs. Culver changed the A&W his parents had owned since the 1960s into Culver's Frozen Custard in 1984 with the support of his wife Lea and parents George and Ruth. The cuisine for the first restaurant in Sauk City, Wisconsin, was influenced by the founder's family. Culver Franchising System,Culver's, is a privately owned and operated American casual fast food restaurant company with locations predominantly in the Midwest. The restaurant is famed for its "butter burgers" and frozen custard, although it also serves cheese curds, chicken, fish, and salads. Culver's first restaurant opened in Sauk City, Wisconsin, in 1984.
