Loehmann's was a chain of discount department shops in the United States that began as a single store in Brooklyn, New York. In the chain's "Back Room," where fashion-conscious ladies could shop for designer clothing at a fraction of the cost of department stores, the chain was best known. Loehmann's owner Alex Levin has emerged as the highest bidder for the 298,109-square-foot Shops of Grand Avenue mall in the city's downtown district. Loehmann's a local nonprofit had intended to develop into a community space for higher education institutions to engage in, reports the New York Daily News.
