One of the oldest and largest off-price department store chains in the United States and a subsidiary of Saks Fifth Avenue, l launched Saks Off 5th in 1990. As a result, Hudson's Bay Company, the Canadian parent company of Saks Fifth Avenue, has raised $200 million in new capital for the Saks off Fifth website. That was valued at around $1 Billion by the investment firm Insight Partners. According to a Saks spokeswoman, only 12% of Saks Fifth Avenue's OFF 5TH items come from Saks Fifth Avenue. About 88% of the merchandise comes from third-party merchants and is likely to be of inferior quality and therefore cheaper.
