Memphis-based First Horizon Bank, formerly First Tennessee Bank, is a financial services company. With over 180 locations throughout Tennessee, it is the leading subsidiary of First Horizon National Corporation. 1864 was the year the company was formed.
After the passage of the National Banking Act of 1863, Frank S. Davis founded the first nationally chartered bank in Memphis, First National Bank. First National Bank of Memphis was chartered on March 25, 1864, even though Memphis was under martial law due to its capture by Union forces during the Civil War.
