Privacy Policy
Last updated October 22, 2026
HissingKitty is a free, public record of teams replacing rented software with tools they own. We collect only what we need to check and publish reports. We don't sell your information.
What We Collect
- Reports you add. The tool, your answers and numbers, your role, a company size range, your industry and any notes. Your name and company are stored only if you add them, and shown only if you choose "Show my name".
- Your email. Used only to verify your report and reply about it. It is never shown on the site and never used for marketing.
- Proof you upload. A redacted bill or screenshot is stored privately and seen only by the person reviewing your report.
- Check my renewal. If you leave the box checked, we save the tool, your quote, your current price and your company size range, with no name, email or company. Your renewal date stays in your browser and your calendar. Shared prices show on the site with no name or company attached.
- The Build vs. Buy estimator. Your answers are saved without your name, email or company, and are used only as anonymous price data. Prices show on the site with no name or company attached.
- Reviews. The software, your star rating, what you write and an optional company size range. Reviews are anonymous. If you add a work email, it's stored apart from the review, used only to mark it Verified, and never shown.
- Listings. If you list a tool or company: its name, website, one line about it, an optional price, the software it replaces, and a contact email. Everything but the email is public once approved.
- Votes. When you vote, your browser stores a random ID so you can change your vote. We store that ID and a one-way code made from your network address with a private key, never the address itself, to allow one vote per browser and network.
- Contact messages. What you send through the contact page, including your email so we can reply.
- Basic usage events. We count things like button clicks and forms started, without your name or email, to see which pages help people add reports.
How We Use It
- To check reports, reviews and listings before they go live, and to publish them.
- To limit voting to one vote per browser and network, and to spot vote stuffing.
- To show totals and medians on tool, category and research pages.
- To reply when you contact us.
- If you tick "Email me when new reports come in", to email you about new reports for that tool. Nothing else.
What Is Public
Published reports show your answers, role, company size range and industry. Reviews show the rating, text and size range. Listings show everything except the contact email. Emails, uploaded proof, vote records and private notes to our reviewer are never public. Public pages can be read by search engines and AI systems, like any public website.
Who We Share It With
We don't sell or rent personal information, and we don't share it with vendors. We use service providers to run the site: our hosting and database provider, and Logo.dev, which serves company logos (your browser requests logos from them). Share buttons open X or LinkedIn only when you click them.
How Long We Keep It
We keep reports while they're published and emails for as long as the report exists. Rejected reports and their emails are deleted when we no longer need them to answer questions about the review.
Your Choices
- Ask us to correct or remove your report, review or listing, or delete your email and uploads.
- Ask for a copy of what we hold about you.
- Turn off report-update emails at any time.
Use the contact page and choose "Privacy". We'll confirm it's your report by writing to the email you used.
Children
HissingKitty is for people buying software for work. It isn't meant for anyone under 16.
